Beer History and Old Ale

Exciting news for November! Beer historian Ron Pattinson will be at Narrows on the 8th to give an informal talk about Stock Ale, shoot the breeze with y’all, and promote his book:

The Home Brewer’s Guide to Vintage Beer

Things will probably get started around 3pm, and we’ll keep you posted of any changes. So why Stock Ale? Because we’ll be releasing one around the same time. More specifically, we’ll be blending a Stock Ale – last year’s Winter Ale inoculated with Brettanomyces claussenii and aged for a year in two old wine barrels from Stinas Cellars – with a fresh version of the same beer to make an Old Ale. We tasted the aged beer last week, and it was fantastic! One of the barrels had some nice barnyard funk, and the other barrel had a subtle cherry-like flavor. When blended, the aged beer will add complexity to the fresh beer.

We hoped to call the beer Old Battle Axe, but the name is already taken. If you have any other ideas, send them our way!
